On Wednesdays and Fridays I try to go to an early morning Yoga class at 6AM. I really enjoy starting my day off with exercise, especially Yoga. I feel energized to start my day after an hour long of flowing poses.
Even though I don’t go into work until 11AM on Wednesdays and Fridays, I still make it a point to get up early (5:20AM) to make it to my Yoga class. I’m a morning person by nature, so the early morning wake up call doesn’t typically phase me.
Change of Plans
This morning was no different. I got up, let the pups out and fed them, and quickly got ready for my Yoga class. I took the 15 minute drive and showed up at the studio 5 minutes before class time. I sat and waited in my car because I realized no one had gotten there yet. By 6AM I was on my phone searching their website and checking my email to see if there was any cancellations for the class. I found nothing. I waited another 5 minutes and then left. No one showed up!
I called the Studio and left a message informing them that I had showed up and no one was there. I asked them to please call me back because I was a bit annoyed that I am paying for these classes and I make it a point to wake up early to get there. Someone from the studio called me back a couple of hours later and apologized for what happened. The owner was never notified by the instructor of any cancellations, so they were just as annoyed as I was. They couldn’t get a hold of the instructor, so they are still unsure as to what happened. The owner offered my 2 free classes, which I was very thankful for.
Instead of taking my usual Yoga class I decided to do a DVD at home. I still wanted to get in my practice for the day.
Though a DVD is certainly not the same as a class, it did the trick. Even with my change of workout plans, I manged to get in a quality Yoga practice that left me feeling energized and ready for the day.
I did an old DVD that I’ve had for years by Baron Baptise. I like the DVD because it mimics a lot of the style I do in class, which is a power Yoga. In class the room is set to around 85-90 degrees, so I missed out on that factor in my living room. However, I still had a great practice on my own.
I ended adding in some extra poses, including another round of wheel, which has become one of my favorites:
I also added in half pigeon, which is a great hip opener pose. I always seem to be very tight in this area (as are many people) and I find this stretch helps tremendously.
I rounded out my workout for the day with 10 minutes on the elliptical, which gives me a total of 30 minutes of cardio for the week. Baby steps! My foot is feeling pretty good today. Yoga has been a huge help, that’s for sure.
Weekend Plans
Since putting an offer on the short sale home (and it being accepted by the sellers!) Andy and I have a free schedule this weekend! We don’t have any big plans, but I’m always a fan of low key weekends. Tonight, like most Fridays, is of course Pizza Friday. Andy’s on pizza duty this week, so he’s in charge of picking out the pizza for dinner.
We’re also in for some crazy weather this weekend, so maybe it’s best that we do just lay low. Today it’s going to be in the 60s and stormy and tomorrow it’s supposedly going to snow. Interesting!
We may be in for another round of this:
It’s been a strange winter in Cleveland this year!
Have a great weekend everyone!!

SO bizarre! I wanna know how everyone else knew not to show up!! Weird.
I know, it was all so strange!
It’s great that you can hold wheel pose. Can you hold chatturanga and crow as well? I can’t do any of the three but, sometimes, it looks like crow is not as tough as I think. Nice work!
I can hold both of those poses – but you are right, they are not as hard as they look! After practicing for quite some time I realized both of those poses are more about finding balance and distributing the work evenly in your body. I tend to rely on my shoulders too much, so when I utilize more core it becomes much easier. Crow is especially all about balance and not so much about arm strength.
Chaturanga is strength, isn’t it? You must be good at pushups, etc if you can hold that. I did notice that crow seems more balance.
Chaturanga is strength, but also having control from your core. Here are some good tips from yoga journal: http://www.yogajournal.com/practice/869
I just recently started being able to do full push ups – the tips from doing chaturanga also go towards push ups. Being able to control your body and contract your “core muscles” helps to stabilize you in a push up.
loving the triceps in that picture. looking good!
Thank god you got some free classes out of that mishap.
hrmm that is rather odd! I wonder what happened… Your triceps are lookin fineeeee in that picture
